Current Activities / Involvement

I handle all of the department's public relations. I also serve as Chairman for our local anti-drug coalition DrugFree WilCo and have served on the Board since its inception. I have been invited on many occasions throughout the country to serve as a guest speaker at law related conferences regarding school safety and public relations. I'm an avid hunter and cook. I also have been serving as a Sunday School Teacher at my local church since 2012.

Major Barriers

Major barriers would include being overwhelmed by duties and responsibilities, maintaining the farm I live on which is approximately 300 acres, and trying to balance out everything in between. The most important thing that has changed to allow me to seek involvement is lack of procrastination, better time management, and making my health a priority which has given me the energy to accomplish those things.

Community Challenge / Issue / Goal

Drug addiction is an issue not only in this community, but all over the United States. Programs like DrugFree WilCo are making a huge impact but it takes a village to persevere. Addiction does not discriminate. It affects every demographic in our community. We have to stop the stigma that is formed for those who are battling addiction by running to them and not away from them. I would like to see more involvement within the community that works together to prevent and reduce drug misuse and addiction among youth and adults through education, communication, and an awareness of resources. The vision would be for a hopeful, healthy, and engaged community.

Company / Job Responsibilities

I am the agency's Public Information Officer and Captain of the School Resource Officer Division. My day-to-day responsibilities include communication with local media representatives, assists in coordinating department public relations, group activities, set-up of department sponsored special events, maintain all social media platforms for the department, and supervise the safety and security of all public schools in Wilson County.

Participation Expectations

I hope to enhance my leadership skills by learning from others in the class and applying that to my daily life. With my current role as a public information officer, I have the unique ability to make a positive impact for our law enforcement community with our local residents by bridging the gap. There is also a big place in my heart to be a positive male role model for our younger generation due to the lack of parental involvement.
