Current Activities / Involvement

I am a county commissioner and currently chair of the animal control committee, vice-chair of Education, and a member of the EMA committee and the judicial committee. I'm the Assistant Secretary for the Green Hill High School PTO and a member of the MJMS PTO. I am also an Ambassador for the MJ Chamber of Commerce.

Major Barriers

I have been involved in the community since I move here in 2012. I was a Den leader for Cub Scouts Pack 913, served on the Lakeview PTO for a year, served on the WCS strategic planning committee in 2013. Started a business - Nashvillefunforfamilies.com, which is still an online resource for families in Middle Tennessee to find fun activities in the area. My family and I have volunteered with the Tennessee Central Railway Museum as car hosts on the excursion train that runs through the county. I ran for office in 2018 and am now in my second term as the County Commissioner for District 18. I served on the education, EMA, Rules, and finance committees during my first term. As you can see, I have been heavily involved in education, business, and government over the years. One of the things I have not done is Leadership Wilson and I'm excited to have the opportunity to be considered for the program.

Community Challenge / Issue / Goal

I think the biggest challenge facing the county is keeping up with infrastructure, specifically in the terms of schools and education, as the population continues to significantly grow. We have several schools that are currently overcrowded and new homes are being built bringing more students every day. There is also beginning to be a shortage of qualified teachers which makes the situation with a growing student population even more difficult.

I think it is very important for all stakeholders from parents to school employees to government officials to be in communication and work together to put together a strategic plan for the next 10 years to ensure our public schools remain one of the top systems in Tennessee. As the Vice-Chair of the County Commission's education committee, I am directly involved and I do talk to leaders and citizens on a regular basis. Moving forward, it would be helpful to have meetings including the public and develop a plan so all of Wilson County is moving forward together to support our schools.

Company / Job Responsibilities

I work on special projects for the County Finance Director, Aaron Maynard. These have included researching, writing and producing a Service Efforts and Accomplishments report, assisting with requests from the state auditors, and constructing the county budget. I have also researched grants for different county departments and helped set up systems for the budget process and new government accounting requirements.

Participation Expectations

I hope to meet more people in the Greater Wilson County area. I live in Mt Juliet, and while I'm familiar with Lebanon and Watertown, I look forward to meeting new people and networking with those in businesses that I'm not connected with currently. I also hope to learn more about what others think are the strengths and challenges for the county as we move forward into the future. Wilson is growing quickly and by working together, I think we can capitalize on that growth and still maintain the close knit community feel and culture that makes Wilson County feel like home. I hope to use my Leadership Wilson experience to continue to serve the county and keep Wilson "the place to be."
