Major Barriers

The major barrier to me getting more involved was mainly starting this new role at Cumberland. I wanted to make sure I at least had about a year under my belt before I began participating in activities that might take away from my professional success. Now that I feel confident in my job and have made several relationships in the area, I think it is time for me to take my professional skills to the next level to not only help my organization, but the County as well.

Community Challenge / Issue / Goal

In the Wilson County area, I have noticed that they’re aren’t many changing tables accessible in retail stores and restaurant restrooms. Having several young nephews and a niece, I have personally found this lack of item challenging and recognize the need for individuals to be able to change a baby with ease and accessibility. Since we are an area full of young families, I would love to work with a company or nonprofit to provide these resources to make the responsibilities of caring for a child on the go easier for all.

Company / Job Responsibilities

Building relationships with community members
Creating compelling giving campaigns
Communiciating the importance and need of annual giving
Providing information on how our students are affected by the generosity of others
Planning and executing events and fundraisers
Working with team members to meet independent and team goals
Supporting various departments to help inform others on value of our office

Participation Expectations

In addition to learning how to become a more effective leader and teammate, I hope to gain more knowledge on the community I grew up in. I have lived in this area for over 30 years and I feel as though I don’t appreciate it as much as I should. This experience would allow me to share knowledge and improve my relationships with people in this area and help connect people to others in order to help our community be stronger. We pride ourselves on being able to help each other and provide opportunities for all in Wilson County, so I would be grateful to be a part of that.
