Current Activities / Involvement

I am a member of the 15th Judicial District Bar Association; College Hills Church of Christ; and the Watertown High School Scholarship Committee. I have taught Sunday School; coached community league basketball and softball; and have sponsored many sports teams and related activities. I typically attend the Fellowship of Christian Athletes yearly fundraising dinner and am a sponsor for the Kids Battle Diabetes Golf Tournament. For several years, I have volunteered to assist with Jere's Ride and have participated in Sherry's Run.

Major Barriers

Time has primarily been the barrier, as well as my lack of confidence to participate in some activities that would require me to engage with people or activities with which I am not particularly familiar. I have spent the last few years involved in my nephew's activities through junior high and high school. He has now graduated, and I have a few years before my niece will be involved in as many activities.

Community Challenge / Issue / Goal

One of the most concerning issues, to me, is Wilson County's ability to obtain and retain highly qualified educators to educate our children and youth. The inability to pay a higher wage has a been a problem for many years, but it is my hope that the recent passage of the sales tax referendum will assist in enticing highly qualified and dedicated educators to seek employment in Wilson County and to remain here. Perhaps their are ways that we can promote the positive qualifies of the community as a whole to encourage those educators to seek and maintain employment here.

Education: High School

Watertown High School

Education: College

Middle Tennessee State University, B. S. in Criminal Justice

Education: Graduate Level

Nashville School of Law, Juris Doctorate

Education: Academic Awards

I graduated as Valedictorian of Watertown High School in 1992. After graduating from Nashville School of Law in May of 2002, I was admitted to practice law in Tennessee in the fall of 2002.

Education: Extracurricular & Leadership

After being involved in many clubs and organizations in leadership roles in high school, while also playing basketball, softball and keeping stats for the football team, I was not involved in true leadership roles in college. I did coach community league basketball and softball for several years, before my career began to take a great deal more of my time. I taught kindergartners in Sunday School at College Hills for several years, and I have served as my dad's treasurer and campaign manager during his School Board campaigns as well.

Company / Job Responsibilities

I am an attorney in the Family Law Division of Lannom & Williams. I represent clients in matters such as divorce, child custody, alimony and child support, termination of parental rights and various other family law matters.

Participation Expectations

I hope to gain greater knowledge of the businesses, opportunities and plans for growth within our community. I hope to gain insight from individuals from various sectors in the community as to the challenges faced by our leaders, while learning to better develop and utilize my own leadership skills. Through connections with other leaders, I would hope to foster relationships that will allow groups to work together to accomplish common goals for the greater good of the community. As a lawyer, we are often asked to participate in projects or events that require one to be a leader for a certain cause. I would hope to gain confidence in my abilities to take on those leadership roles when needed.
